Middle School
VSAC offers a variety of services statewide to families with children in Grades 5-8.
Workshops for students (called "Advance" and "Go") focus on career and college awareness. The workshops are offered to all middle schools in Vermont.
For parents we offer a Start Now! (PDF) newsletter that provides information about early college planning. To subscribe, call 800-642-3177 x 2070, or e-mail us.
If you haven't started saving for college expenses, start now! Check out the Vermont Higher Education Investment Plan
In addition, two programs funded through federal grants are offered at selected schools throughout the state:
Talent Search — serving students in Grades 7 and 8, and through Grade 12.
Gear Up — serving students in Grades 5-8, and through Grade 12.
These programs give preference to "first generation" college-bound students of modest-income families. Outreach counselors provide intensive counseling, academic support, field trips, and workshops at participating schools. Students are encouraged to start thinking about their future in relation to the world of work and education beyond high school.
