Why do I need to provide my e-mail address when I create a myVSAC profile?
myVSAC is designed to provide you with information and services electronically. We will use your myVSAC e-mail address to send you e-mail messages to confirm your myVSAC registration and to provide you with myVSAC login assistance. In the future, we may use your myVSAC e-mail address to introduce new electronic informational services, such as college preparation newsletters, event announcements, and information to help you plan and finance higher education. You will have the option each time to discontinue receiving such informational e-mails.


VSAC respects your privacy. We do not sell address lists. We do not use e-mail to request your social security number, VSAC account number, or myVSAC user id or password.

Help with Web Browser Versions & Settings


VSAC’s online services are designed to be compatible with the latest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari. Many of our secure, interactive applications require Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption, JavaScript and Cookies. To verify or edit your browser settings please use the guide below.


Supported Browsers


VSAC provides a list of the supported Web browsers as well as links to download the latest version of those browsers. If you have a question about compatibility for your specific computer, please check the original documentation for your computer or check with the manufacturer.


How to determine your browser name and version (example: Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)

  1. Open your Web browser.
  2. From the browser’s menu bar, select Help.
  3. Then select About to display a screen which shows your browser name and the current version.

 

Guide to view and edit your browser settings:

Internet Explorer version 6.0 or later

Enable JavaScript
  1. On the top menu bar click Tools then Internet Options…
  2. Click the Security tab
  3. Select the globe icon for the Web content zone titled Internet
  4. Set the Security Level to the default setting of Medium
  5. Click the OK button
Enable Cookies
  1. On the top menu bar click Tools then Internet Options…
  2. Click the Privacy tab
  3. Set the Privacy Setting to no higher than Medium High
  4. Click the OK button
Enable SSL (Secure Socket Layer)
  1. On the top menu bar click Tools then Internet Options…
  2. Click the Advanced tab
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the list of options
  4. Under the heading of “Security” make certain the check boxes for the following options are checked:
    • Use SSL 2.0
    • Use SSL 3.0
    • Use TLS 1.0 (optional)
  5. Click the OK button
Enable HTTP 1.1
  1. On the top menu bar click Tools then Internet Options…
  2. Click the Advanced tab
  3. Scroll about half-way down the list of options
  4. Under the heading of “HTTP 1.1 settings” make certain the check boxes for the following options are checked:
    • Use HTTP 1.1
    • Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections (optional)
  5. Click the OK button

 

Mozilla Firefox version 3.0 or later

Enable JavaScript
  1. On the top menu bar click on Tools then Options…
  2. Click on the button labeled Content
  3. Make certain the check boxes for the following features are checked:
    • Enable JavaScript
    • Enable Java
  4. Click the OK button
Enable Cookies
  1. On the top menu bar click on Tools then Options…
  2. Click on the button labeled Privacy
  3. Make certain the check boxes for the following features are checked:
    • Accept cookies from sites
    • Accept third-party cookies
  4. Click the OK button
Enable SSL (Secure Socket Layer)
  1. On the top menu bar click on Tools then Options…
  2. Click the button labeled Advanced
  3. Click on the tab labeled Encryption
  4. Make certain the check boxes for the following features are checked:
    • Use SSL 3.0
    • Use TLS 1.0
  5. Click the OK button

 

Apple Safari version 3.2 or later

Enable JavaScript & Cookies
  1. On the menu bar, click on Edit then Preferences…
  2. Click on the button labeled Security
  3. Under the heading Web Content, make certain the check boxes for the following features are checked:
    • Enable Java
    • Enable JavaScript
  4. Under the heading Accept Cookies, make certain the radio button for either of the following features is selected:
    • Always

    • —OR—
    • Only from sites I visit
  5. Click the OK button
Enable SSL (Secure Socket Layer)

Safari uses SSL encryption by default and there is no setting to enable.
