Funding Sources for Short-Term / Non-Degree Training
Federal education loans may not necessarily be used to pay tuition or fees at all education and training programs. If the program you wish to attend isn’t eligible for Federal loans, you may wish to consider the options below.
Some training programs are “Title IV" eligible, meaning you can use federal and state financial aid to help pay the program’s costs. Federal and state financial aids carry many benefits for the student. Contact the training/education program and ask if they are “Title IV" eligible. If they are, VSAC can help you with the following financial aid:
-
Vermont State Incentive Grant or call VSAC at (800) 882-4166
-
Scholarships for Vermonters or call VSAC at (800) 253-4819
If the program you wish to attend isn’t eligible for federal financial aid, you may wish to consider the options below:
- VSAC’s Vermont Non-Degree Grants: Any Vermonter enrolled in a non-degree course that will improve employability or encourage further study is eligible to apply for a Vermont Non-Degree Grant. Applications are available at Vermont Department of Employment and Training offices, vocational centers, other schools, and VSAC — (800) 642-3177
- Private Non-Degree Student Loans — These non-degree student loans are called “Private Loans," and they do not carry the same benefits as federal student loans. You may need to carefully compare each loan to make sure that it offers the best deal for your circumstances.
