Are you in repayment?
Federal Loans (Stafford, PLUS, Graduate PLUS)
If you are currently repaying your federal education loans, VSAC can suspend your payments with a forbearance or deferment for up to one year during your active duty service. If you are activated beyond one year, your loans may be suspended for an additional year or through your active duty end-date when you provide a copy of your military orders.
You continue to be responsible for interest that accrues on your loans during forbearance. Any unpaid interest will be added to your principal balance when the forbearance ends.
If your loan is subsidized, the federal government pays the interest that accrues during deferment. If your loan is unsubsidized, you remain responsible for interest that accrues during deferment. You are also responsible for any interest that may have been outstanding prior to the deferment. We add unpaid interest to your loan balance when your deferment ends.
A family member or other reliable source may contact us on your behalf.
