Servicemember’s Civil Relief Act

If you are currently serving on active duty in the military, you may be eligible for benefits under the Servicemember’s Civil Relief Act (SCRA) on your VSAC loans obtained prior to your active duty status. This benefit limits the maximum interest rate that may be charged on eligible loans to 6% during periods of service. The 6% interest rate will remain in effect until your period of service is completed.

Effective 8/14/08, the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) expanded the applicability of the SCRA interest provision to include federal education loans. Private loans have always been eligible for this benefit.
