Workshops at the VSAC Resource Center — 2009-2010 School Year

High School Students and Parents


The workshops listed below are geared towards high school students. If parents/guardians attend, we suggest that they accompany their students rather than attend for them.

Finding a Career That’s Right for You – High school students explore their abilities, values, interests, and personality through activities, discussion, and career software.

Finding a College That’s Right for You – High school students learn about factors to consider when looking at colleges, then learn to use VSAC’s college search resources.

Maximizing Your Credit: Strategies for Building and Maintaining Positive Credit – High School students learn how to get and use credit and how to maintain a good credit score while using credit cards.

Preparing for the ACT – Students learn about the ACT — the test’s structure, scoring, and strategies, and what to expect on test day.

Preparing for the SAT – Students learn about the SAT — the test’s structure, scoring, and strategies, and what to expect on test day.

Preparing for Your Financial Freedom: Transitions after High School – Graduating high school seniors learn how to develop a good system for managing their money in the Internet age.

Taking Control of Your Money: Strategies for Students – High school students learn about their own financial behavior and the impact of that behavior on their decisions about money.

Understanding the College Application Process – A panel of local college students shares stories and offers advice on the application and admissions processes.

Understanding the Financial Aid Process – Students and parents learn about the financial aid timeline, types of aid available, and various financial aid application forms.

Writing an Effective Admissions Essay – High school students learn about what admissions officers look for and about ways to develop a winning essay.

Adult Students


Locating and Funding Short-Term Training Opportunities for Employment – Adults learn about different short-term training programs in Vermont, from one-time workshops to certificate programs, as well as funding sources for these programs.
