Project the charges for the college you've identified in Step 2 for the period when your child will be in school.
You can do this by going to finaid.org and clicking on “Calculators.” Choose the “College Cost Projector.” Type in the current cost for one year, and the number of years before your child begins college. The calculator should provide the current expected rate of inflation (7 percent). Click on the “Calculate” button for projected costs for all four years of college, along with a total projected cost.
