Develop a college investment plan

step two

Get a sense of what your EFC means in terms of total college costs.

Take the EFC from Step 1 and divide it by the cost of a school your child might attend. Charges (tuition, room, and board) at Vermont schools are available at Vermont College Costs. For a rough estimate, use the current average cost of a year at a Vermont public school (University of Vermont) — $19,612. Or, use the current average cost of a year at a Vermont independent college — $38,312. Dividing the EFC by college charges produces a percentage. Hold on to that number.
